SEEMAHALE TELECOMS (PTY) LTD PARTNERS WITH VERIMATRIX

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ZA), 8th May 2011 – Seemahale Telecoms today announced yet another strategic partnership after its signed an agreement with Verimatrix to resell its video content protection technology.

As part of the agreement, Seemahale Telecoms will enable Verimatrix video content protection technology across all DVB (DVB-T/T2/S/S2/H) and IPTV-based networks and also offer the company’s secure adaptive rate streaming technology to broadcasters.

Verimatrix specialises in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe. The award-winning and independently audited Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) and ViewRight® solutions offer an innovative approach for cable, satellite, terrestrial and IPTV operators to cost-effectively extend their networks and enable new business models.

As the recognized leader in software-based security solutions for premier service providers, Verimatrix has pioneered the 3-Dimensional Security approach that offers flexible layers of protection techniques to address evolving business needs and revenue threats. Maintaining close relationships with major studios, broadcasters, industry organizations, and its unmatched partner ecosystem enables Verimatrix to provide a unique perspective on digital TV business issues beyond content security as operators seek to deliver compelling new services.

According to Dr Thabo Lehlokoe, Seemahale Telecoms Chairman, the deal is perfectly timed as it comes hot on the heals of the recent decision made by the SADC Council of Communications Ministers to adopt DVB-2 as the official broadcast standard for the region.

“This is the perfect solution for any broadcaster that wants to add the pay-TV element to their free-to-air services, because not only does Verimatrix’s software-based conditional access solution secure the pay-TV content, but its Video Mark technology also watermark’s the content, preventing would be pilferers from stealing the content and repackaging it as theirs,” explains Lehlokoe.

As one of the official Verimatrix resellers, and the only one in the Sub-Saharan region, this agreement presents an opportunity for Seemahale Telecoms to take advantage of the digital migration taking place on the continent, especially in southern Africa.

“With a trusted brand like Verimatrix, we are quite bullish about the potential revenue that can be generated from reselling these solutions. Globally, Verimatrix is the largest software based/card-less content security solutions provider for Pay-TV with a current market share of 30%,” he states.

The company’s solutions also provides for broadcasters to enable Pay-TV on different devices and generate revenue from it.

“Seemahale intends to enable broadcasters and telecommunications companies to provide video solutions via the IP platform because these solutions will work well with IP-TV solutions and Over-The-top (OTT) Solutions. It will provide healthy competition for the current digital satellite television providers,” explains Lehlokoe.

“Seemahale Telecoms is a valued partner that will enable Verimatrix video content protection technology across all DVB (DVB-T/T2/S/S2/H) and IPTV-based networks. In addition, it will offer Verimatrix's secure adaptive rate streaming technology, helping broadcasters monetise its valuable content across emerging Over-The-Top (OTT) networks,” states Pierre Hunter, VP of Verimatrix EMEA. “It is important for Verimatrix to have close local partners in South Africa that focus on Broadcasting and Telecommunications infrastructure, enabling the next generation of secure personal media experience across all networks and all receive devices.”

Lehlokoe notes that this agreement will ensure Seemahale Telecoms’ success in providing an enhanced IP-TV solution to corporates and consumers and not just a settop box.

“Broadcasters and telecommunications companies can now provide a more personalised media experience to the end user giving them the content they want, where they want it, when they want it and on the device they most prefer it on,” he concludes.
